Wednesday I cast on for the precious wee knit and I was so excited that I pulled the classic “knitting mistake”, I didn’t read the pattern all the way through. I skimmed it several times and saw no problems. The pattern said you start at the cuff of the sleeve and knit to the other sleeve. Again, no problem. I had my needles, the yarn and off I went yesterday knitting away on the wee ribbing of a sleeve.
So, on Wednesday night at knit night I pulled out my knitting and the pattern and was chatting away and then looked at the pattern and realized I had knit an extra row. No big deal, so I get it back on track and add the 2 additional stitches and look at the pattern again, and again and again. I then say to my friends, how am I suppose to do garter stitch in the round?? I was met with questioning faces that promptly asked if the pattern said to join in the round. Well, not exactly. I assumed and you know what the first three letters spell!! Warning bells were going off in my head and the pattern was now in the hands of my knitting friends and as they read the directions out loud it all started to make sense. This sweater was NOT KNIT IN THE ROUND. I have to tell you that I had a really good laugh as did my friends and then there was talk of making the baby a contortionist to fit into my wonky sweater. More laughter!! Did I mention that there was a schematic and talk of seaming…….NONE OF WHICH I SAW. Also, the sweater is a wrap sweater. If ever there was a case of poor pattern reading, man this was it. So, yes, I am owning that I started knitting a garment without reading the directions, apparently at all. Shit happens and I’m owning it.
This is what new little lives do to us, we loosing out knitting minds! I’m back on track and will have some correct photo’s soon.
Thank you all for your kind and supportive words about my recent losses. They touched my heart.
Happy Summer! That was one fast school year. We have been in a horrible heat wave which makes me and everyone else miserable. When the dew points are in the 70’s, it’s insufferable. Right now we are having terrible thunderstorms.
I have been knitting and once again I knit the Rosemary (Romi) Hill Mystery Knit Along and she didn’t disappoint this year either.
I love the colors so much. The lighter color is called Fairy Dust, a hint of pink and the darker shade is Sun Kissed Peach. This MKAL started about a month after my Uncle passed and I needed something to hold on to, literally. I knit like a woman possessed but it kept me sane.
At the end of May, I lost a dear friend who had been suffering for such a long time. It’s been a rough spring. I am thankful that I have knitting to lose myself in at times.
It’s not all sad. A dear friend became a grandmother for the first time and I have been so excited for her and her family. Nothing like a baby to make you happy. You just can’t help yourself. I asked the then to be grandmother if she would mind if I knitted something special for her daughters baby and she said absolutely. This is the color combination I cooked up the other day.
I just love it! A one of a kind color way for a one of a kind little one. I plan in casting on tomorrow.
I also just updated the shop with many new colors as well as out sumptuous new sport weight yarn, Yankee Schooner. It’s a beautiful combination of 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% Nylon and comes in 250 yard skeins. You can see them right here.
Enjoy the yarn porn! Happy Knitting!

We are melting here in the Southeast. Dew points are in the 70’s…pure yuck and tomorrow I will participate in ArtFest LaPlata. Temps will again be around 90 and I’m praying for a breeze. I will be armed with lots of things to keep me cool while trying to sell wool!! Thankfully knitters don’t let the weather affect their stash enhancements!! I am so appreciative to all who support me!!
I will see you on the other side of this!
Tomorrow is also World Wide Knit in Public Day, so whip out your knitting/crocheting wherever you are!
Stay cool and enjoy!
