A lonely sole …..

I was digging looking through my stash and I discovered this tragic situation!

I really felt bad.  It needs its mate!  I will get right on that today!  How could I be so insensitive as to leave it like this??  I checked my Ravelry page and it says it is finished, obviously that was premature!  I love the yarn, it’s Jitterbug and besides my sock yarns, this is a favorite of mine.

It’s Memorial Day weekend and I hope you all enjoy whatever you have planned.

Happy Knitting,

School, Summer…What??

Where did the summer go?  I swear I just turned off my “school” alarm.  Usually summer drags, but not this summer, it flew by so fast, so glad we enjoyed it and I hope you did as well.

We just returned from a trip to Cape Cod where there was a bit of a chill in the air at times, mostly at dusk. I have to admit that watching almost the entire Shark Week on the Discovery Channel kept me out of the ocean. So I walked the beach in search of my elusive beach glass.

My first meal on Cape was this with my Dad…..yes, it was that good!

We were fortunate to see family members that we don’t usually get to see, so that was a treat!!

I did make it to two knitting shops, one in Warren, RI and the other on Cape Cod.  I bought an Anne Hanson pattern from the shop in Warren and these buttons for a future cardigan.

They were too cute to leave behind! I wondered if putting the buttons before the sweater was wrong somehow, but my knitter friends assured me that it was fine!

We came home on Saturday and school started on Monday and here was my 5th grader.  As I looked back at previous “First Day of School” photos I immediately got weepy.  He was such a baby when he left for Kindergarten and looks so grown up now!  I also like that I haven’t aged one bit since his birth….I’m kidding!

That’s what I’ve been up to.  More visiting than knitting and that’s fine with me.

The dye pots will be up and running soon.  The house needs to look a bit neater before I unleash my creative juices.

Have a great week!

Seafood and Sunshine…

Greetings from Cape Cod, my former home!

I hope you all are doing well!

I have been hanging out with my husband’s side of the family and now it is our turn to swap, so to the Cape I came today, hubby and son will follow tomorrow.

I met one of the owners today of Bella Yarns in Warren, RI today and it is a great yarn shop.  They were sweet to ask if I would be interested in coming and being involved in their “Meet the Dyer” series and I said sure.  So I will keep you and posted on that future date.  Sounds like a ton of fun if you ask me!

As in true RI fashion, I immediately dropped all the “r” in all the right places. It was great to be back in the land of the people who understand what I am talking about.

I am heading out to claim a lobsta roll that has my name on it…..see, dropped that “r”….!

Enjoy your week! I am poaching free WiFi whenever I can!

Confession, I’m a worrier….

Greetings from the kitchen table where I sit, worrying.  I have to admit that I am a bit of a worrier.  I am always worried about the boy, who seems just fine and dandy and growing.  I worry about lots of things I can and can’t control.  I’m working on worrying less, I really am!

We leave on Saturday for a week in Massachusetts to see our parents, siblings and their children.  I will spend a couple of days with my in-laws and then I will board a bus that is bound for Cape Cod and some quality time with my parents and a lobster or two!  After watching Shark Week with the boy last week, not thinking about being in the water too much, if at all!!

I am finishing up the custome dye orders and they will be delivered this week.  I was worried about this order. The color had to be just so and when at The Mannings, I picked up 2 dye colors that I thought might help and they did, see…

I haven’t been knitting to much, been thinking about it though.  My right hand is still not quite right after the fall I took and of course I never had it checked out.  Not to smart on my part.  But when I feel like a can do a couple of rows, I am knitting this….

Now if you are saying to yourself, hey, I thought it was hues of purple, you are right!  I thought I needed a wee bit of cashmere in this as I plan to wear it close to my skin and do intend to make it as originally designed, an infinity cowl.  I did however tweek the number of cast on stitches from 81 to 51 as I am petite and the 81 stitches was really to wide for me.  Others on Ravelry did the same.  I am using Yankee Stride, a lovely blend of 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% Nylon….see, just a wee bit of cashmere and all is well with the world!

Until next we meet!  Have a great day!!

The Big Wow!

Greetings to you all!  I hope you all are well.

I have had the most wonderful week with my son. We have been keeping busy with various errands and what not.  Even found him in bed with me this morning, second time this week.  As a mom, it’s the little things.

On to the exciting news and boy, oh boy, is it exciting!!  Yarn has been sent to my friend, and I can call her my friend, Romi Hill and she was all excited about the yarn and tweeting about it last night and said that it will be seen in her 7 Small Shawls; Year 4: Friends.  I was really and honestly surprised and overjoyed with the news.  Just because you give a designer yarn doesn’t mean that they will use it.

If you hurry and head to Romi’s Blog, @Romi’s Studio, she is having a wonderful give away including this collection of Shawls to come!  On Ravelry, you get all 7 patterns for $16, that is such a bargain for such beautiful designs!

On a more yarny note, I am looking into expanding my yarn line into the worsted, sport and lace weights and some indulgent fiber combinations.  More about this later, for now I shall bask in the glow that Ms. Romi loves her yarn and I couldn’t be happier!

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you on the flipside!

Goofing off….

What a fabulous weekend I had with my friends who also happen to be knitters!  I totally blew off all housework in favor of going to East Berlin, PA to attend The Manning’s Annual Knit In.  This was my second year going and more of our friends from MD came and it was just a blast.  I bought several patterns from Churchmouse and a fun Zauberball and a skein of Rowan Kidsilk haze, some dye and I stuck to my spending limit.

I didn’t really take any pictures.  I am not sure why, just to busy shopping and laughing.  I haven’t laughed like that in so long, that my side hurt the next day when I saw all the same people for another gathering.

Sunday’s gathering was a summer get together that included my nemesis, the margarita!  Drinking two of these during the day is not a good idea, but they were delicious.  The food was amazing as was the group of ladies I was with.  There was also a baby involved and she got passed around quite a bit.  Babies smell so good and feel so cuddly and warm and I swear it makes your ovaries start to dance and your brain starts talking smack about how you need another one and it will be all so wonderful….it might have been the booze talking too….!  I came home and tried to cuddle with my 10-year-old and it was nice, he is now convinced that I am nuts, but it wasn’t that “feeling” when you are holding a baby.  In answer to your upcoming question, no, there won’t be anymore babies in my future except for the ones that new parents let me hold.  I’m OK with that!!

The repercussions of goofing off all weekend is playing catch-up this week.  Everywhere I look there seems to be piles of stuff that needs sorting and discarding and I guess I will have to do it.  By the way, since I was goofing off, nobody else who lives her felt compelled to swish a toilet or start a dishwasher.  Don’t let me get started on this because it will take on a whole life of its own.

I hope your weekend was as wonderful!
