Planning and Playing……

I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  I have been sidelined from knitting  for the past week but hope to dive in later this week.  In the meantime, I felt like I could do some custom dying today from the “props”.

Before my derailment, I was working on Sagebrush Infinity Scarf by Rosemary (Romi) Hill.  Photo courtesy of @Romi and used with permission.  The pattern is lovely and the chart is easily memorized.

After knitting 3 chart repeats I realized that it was going to be really wide and wider still after blocking.  I quickly jumped onto Ravelry to see if anyone else made any mods to the amount of cast-on stitches and there was.  I am also thinking that this would make some lovely gifts.  I also thought that I might add some beads, not a lot, just a few for accent.  Also thinking about a yarn change.  I have a new base in, it’s a beautiful 50% Merino, 50% Silk non-superwash and I will be custom dying it tomorrow for a special somebody.  I think I need a trip to the bead store.  I can’t think about beads without thinking about the lovely Laura Nelkin.

I had the pleasure of meeting Laura last year at Fibre Space where she taught several classes.  She has lots of different patterns, some you can even make in an evening, talk about instant gratification!

We had some great storms the other night and the sky was so beautiful that I snapped a couple of pictures.  This was the West shot.

Props…..

I should ask other dyers this question.  Do your customers give your props and ask you to dye them “that” color?  It’s been getting really amusing here and I thought that I would take a picture of what has been handed to me over the last few weeks.

What you are seeing is a flashlight, a handbag and a shawl, because my customers want those colors.  As you know, replicating some colors are earlier than others. Reds quite frankly are a pain in the ass.  If you are a dyer, what do you do?  The blue flashlight came out beautifully and my customer was very happy. Of course I forgot to take a picture of the yarn.

I was going to dye today, but I took a nasty fall down the stairs on Monday and I haven’t quite recovered.  All right side including my hand which I may have sprained since it still hurts a lot. I am typing this blog with one hand.  I think I might soak in the tub tonight and try to ease my pains away.

Bryce gave me this darling little treasure for my birthday.  It is a turtle made out of shells with a straw hat and glasses.  She made it home in one piece.

Have a wonderful weekend and happy knitting!

Lets re-wind a bit, shall we?

Hello to all…

We are back from our fabulous family vacation and it took about a week to adjust to non-beach time and get back to something that resembles a sort of routine, as it is summer.

Let me begin by saying that I finished the shawl on Thursday night July 4th and blocked it just before we left.  I have to admit that this is the most challenging knit to date and I couldn’t be prouder of it.  It is the Mystery Shawl by Rosemary Romi Hill called Cactus Flower.

I ment to take it with me on vacation, but honestly, it was just too hot for it.  Dare I say it, but it was almost to hot to knit and frankly, I did very little.

This was the view from the living room and dining room and where I spend most of my time if I wasn’t on the deck enjoying the ocean breezes.

It was quiet and relaxing, just what we needed.  Tough ride for the pup, she’s 3, but still a baby.  Car sickness has always been a problem for her despite our best efforts to ease it.  At one point we stopped and got her some gingersnap cookies and that got us there without any further incidents.  I had my knitting bag up front with me and took a picture of my “car sock” and a fellow knitter saw my tweet and actually spied the cookies sticking out of my bag!  Good vision on her part!!

The beach was just a slice of heaven!  Being from Massachusetts, we loved the water, but it like never warms up.  Of course my son jumps in any water at any temperature.  I venture slowly.  It was so amazingly warm I couldn’t believe it. Part of me wanted to just dive in, but I think I watch the movie “Jaws” a few too many time and all I could hear in my brain was the sound they played when the shark was around.  I went in up to my waist.  Watching the boy was a two parent job until this parent got taken down by a wave and needed a little saving.

As you can see the waves were something else.  Pulled the sand right out from under you.

We are already looking forward to next year!  I hope that you are having a wonderful summer!

See you soon and happy knitting!

The Planning…

I have been writing this blog post for about a week.  I want to include some pictures but can’t seem to remember to take them and then I get in a knitting zone and well, all else seems to exist.  You understand, I know you do.

We leave Sunday for vacation!!  Now that it is much closer, I am getting really excited and list have started.  Of course there’s a knitting list.  Thanks to Rosemary (Romi) Hill for making my knitting decisions easier by releasing 5 new patterns last week!!  She is a busy lady indeed and as I am knitting the edging on my Mystery KAL, I am even more in love with her thought process in her designs.  I had hoped to have it done before we leave, but that would mean no sleep and I must have some sleep to deal with the Bryce who has been BORED since school ended.  Frankly, he is the reason the edge is not done! I love him nonetheless!  Actually having forgone any sort of housework, I have made HUGE progress, it might actualty be done or damn close!  Here is a picture of the beautiful edge.  I need a LOVE button..

We have been stuck in a rather sucky weather pattern for about a week. Dew points in to 70’s and one terrible storm after another, which the occasional tornado threat thrown in for good measure.  Hubby and son were headed to karate on Monday  evening and a confirmed tornado happened right in front of them.  Glad I wasn’t with them, I would have peed my pants for sure!

I did check the weather for next week and it is looking perfect.  My plan for vacation is beach, naps, knitting and reading.  I am going to try give myself a week off from electronics, no email, no twitter.  Just the book I downloaded to my Kindle and my iPod with all my music.  This is going to be my view….

On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful...

On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful…

I will see you all on the flip side of our family vacation!  This is also where I will be spending my birthday, not bad, not bad!  If only Kenny Chesney would show up and sing me a song. Hey, a girl can have delusions dream!

Happy July!
