Thinking Spring…

The dyepots were speaking to me this week and I had a good time.

Spring Bunch

Let me introduce from upper left, Sherbert, Daffodil, Wasabi and Plum Crazy. These are just a few of our new colors. They are available in at the moment in the Puritan and Yankee Lite.

Yankee Lite is a single construction yarn 100% Merino and it is 400 yards. Great for shawls, scarves and sweaters. It lacks the nylon for long wearing socks. Yankee Puritan is a fabulous sock yarn, 75% Merino 25% Nylon and a generous 463 yards which is perfect for socks and shawls. This is the same yarn base that the Yarn Harlot used to make Ken’s Socks for Christmas.

Our Etsy shop, TheYankeeDyer will be updated later today!

Have a great day!

Removed from the worthy list….

I had my week planned and nothing went as planned. Bryce got a cold and fever and he was a bit clingy, which stopped what I had planned dead in its tracks. Then we had some snow…about 2 inches and school was cancelled and now today we might get 2 more inches and school is letting out 2 hours early. I just can’t catch a break. I did manage to go to the grocery store, not because of the snow, but because our cupboards were bare and I wanted to make some homemade chicken soup, and chili and homemade spaghetti sauce with meatballs and sausage. Gosh, I am drooling as I type this. I am also going to make bread tomorrow too. I hope there is room in there for some knitting.

As I schlepped groceries from the car through the garage, I saw a situation that stopped my heart. My DH newest knitted hat on the garage floor. I knew this was not the doing on my DH, but of my son who keeps grabbing it because it is fabulous and I WAS going to make him a hat, but this has put him back on the “not worthy” yet of a handknit. You don’t blame me, do you??

I have to say that the hat is cozy. I realized that I don’t have a handknit hat and was grabbing DH’s hat every time the dog needed to go out and play take care of her business and linger in the snow. We haven’t seem snow in a bit so she was fascinated and we were freezing!

So, I cast on a hat for myself because I think I need one. I am using Sweet Georgia’s Worsted in brown to match my coat and the pattern I am doing is the Super Cupcake hat. In fact, all my friends have either cast on and finished or are currently working on it. It’s cute and quick, my kind of knit! Here is a photo of it and you get a matching cowl pattern with it.

Cute, right? My ears will be cozy by the end of the weekend and good thing because the weatherman says it’s going to be around 55 degrees…sure…we will see!

Happy Saturday!

Not so fast….

Greetings to all! This blog post is not about knitting, it is about something that happened to us this past weekend….

We had a bit of a shock here on Friday. My hubby asked me to log into our bank account and see if a returned item had been credited to our account. I was going to brush it off and say, “don’t worry about it”, but decided to avoid the argument and went ahead and logged in. Let me just say how thankful I am about the nagging husband (I will never type this again), because I knew how much was in there and when the page opened and it showed HALF of what should have been in there, I could feel my stomach flip, literally! I proceeded to check out the transactions and yelled for my hubby. The look on my face said it all, we’ve been hacked! He walked over to me and  took over at the computer with the telephone in hand. The bank froze our account and although I know we are covered, it is just the worst feeling. My husband was furious and began the tedious process of calling the places where large orders were placed and stopping the shipments. It took about an hour, but there was satisfaction on our end. You may have tried to steal from us, but you also won’t be getting what you think you “might” be getting. We were successful and nothing shipped!

So, should you ever find yourself in this situation and I hope you never do, take the extra time and make sure that these low life individuals do not get away with receiving stolen goods.

Have a happy day,

Michele

Still waiting….

The threat of snow makes the state of Maryland freak out, plain and simple. I have never seen anything quite like it. I knew in my heart today that it would not be a full day of school and I was right. The emails came out around 10:00 am that the schools would have a 2 hour early dismissal.

The storm has been down graded and we might squeak out a couple of inches and it has been pouring here all day! The dog is starting to give me attitude when she needs to go out, it has been 7 days of rain!! We are in dire need of some sunshine.

I am explaining to my son why it isn’t snowing as he is running around trying to find snow gear and blow up a snow thing he got for Christmas. I think he might have more luck building an ark at this point. Even if it does snow, the ground is too warm for really any accumulation.

I do miss a beautiful snowfall however. I would love for it to look like this!

But the odds are against it! For those who have it, enjoy!

Happy Knitting,

Michele

It might snow….

Oh boy, my son is really hoping for a snow day tomorrow!! He got off the bus and told me what his teacher said all the kids have to do to wish for a snow day. It includes wearing your pajamas inside out and flushing an ice cube down the toilet. I have never heard of such a thing, but as NE transplants, we will try anything for some snow!! Frankly, I love to see the white stuff flying  about and coating the ground in such a peaceful way. By the way, we are on day 7 with no sun. So, snow quickly because I need some sun!!!

I finally got dressed and went out today! I went to two grocery stores and CVS and by the time I unloaded everything, I was a bit tired. So, after some lunch I did something I never do, I watched a movie all by myself. It was wonderful, the movie was a bit dark, but I don’t mind that occasionally.

I think my enthusiasm for my new knitting project caused a flare up with whatever is going on with my hand. The good news is that I get to see the Hand Specialist on Tuesday…YAY….fix me buddy!!

Well, that’s all I have for today. I am off to ice the hand!

Happy Day,

Michele

A shower and some tea….

I’ll admit it, I have been struck by something viral. I hope I nipped it in the bud quickly, but you just never know. Yesterday I couldn’t get my head off a pillow without the worst head/ear/eye/face pain you have ever felt. Hubby wanted to know “what I had exactly”…. if I had only had the strength! I didn’t complain, I just stayed in bed because that seemed to be the place I most needed to be.

My son was very sweet and offered my a walkie-talkie, ginger ale and some graham crackers. He is much improved in the empathy department. The walkie-talkie noise I thought might bring me to my knees, but I dare not complain. It was sweet and thoughtful even if he did wake me up about five times.

Today I got up and noticed that my brains did not feel like they were going to implode and I was able to get the mornings task done….get the boy breakfast and then on the bus. I tried to stay up, but it was not to be. I told the dog to meet me in bed and that is where we napped, without noise of any kind, for The best part was the tea and honey, which is what I drink when feeling this way.

I have been knitting when I can, which isn’t much. I am working on the Koigu Linen stitch scarf and I love it. It is mindless and a great project for all your left over sock yarn! Here is mine…

Not real impressive, but a fun public knitting project.

I am off for another hot cup of tea with honey!

Happy Day!!

Resolutions, not so much…

I have a confession to make, all my resolutions for the New Year have been an epic fail! There had been no walks and my organization skills have yet to kick in.

I have so many projects going that frankly my knitting area looks like a bomb went off near it. Trying to get project for work done and knitting things with my yarn, well, I am on over load. I can happily report that my hand feels almost 100%. Boy was that scary. So to say that I am behind would be a massive understatement. I did hire a test knitter, who came highly recommended. She may be the answer to my prayers.

I am also trying to stay involved with my family and I might be failing there too. I am one person and I am doing the best that I can.

To my defense, I have been a bit under the weather. Not sure if it’s just a cold or a sinus infection, but I am prepared for both.

I sat around today and knit on the Linen Stitch scarf and found that very relaxing. Love to see the colors change and watch the whole thing change. Totally a fun knit and great stash buster! Win, win.

I am off to bed. Have a wonderful day!

Introducing Ken’s Socks….

Oh happy day!

I emailed Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (The Yarn Harlot) on Monday evening thanking her for using my yarn and for blogging about it and how much it ment to me! I also wanted to ask her if it would be OK to name that colorway “Ken’s Socks”, as I had people wanting THAT colorway and I couldn’t really think of anything else to call it. I totally thought that I needed her blessing on that. If you missed her blog post with the pictures of the socks, you can check it out here.

I awoke on Tuesday to an email from Steph!! She loved the idea and thought that her friend Ken would be tickled. So, of course I printed out the email to keep next to the blog post in my “Stephanie” poly coated binder for safe keeping, but not in a stalkerish  kind of way!  😉  Yeah, I was pretty happy yesterday and pretty happy today!!

So here is the unveiling of the colorway, Ken’s Socks…

Ken's Socks

Ken’s Socks

Such a lovely marriage of blues, greens and a hint of brown. Now remember I stink at photography and although this looks beautiful, in real life it is even more handsome. Here is a close up…

Our Etsy shop, TheYankeeDyer will be updated Friday night and with the blessing of Stephanie, Ken’s Socks will be offered.

Update on the sore hand front! There is no nerve damage, so they are sending me to a hand specialist for tendonitis. I felt so relieved to hear that news!

Happy Knitting…!

Limping along….

Happy Tuesday!

Yesterday was a strange day. I had a staff meeting in the morning, and it is always lovely to almost have all of us in one place. Talk of things fibery and plan project/events for the beginning of this New Year.

I was supposed to go grocery shopping, but I kinda blew that off and decided it would be a breakfast for dinner kind of day. The boys had been bugging me for blueberry pancakes, so that is what they got.

I had some dyeing to do and I got that accomplished to a certain degree. I will finish up today. Oh and the grocery shopping too.

I am not really one for resolutions, but I am going to have to start a couple. The first is being more organized with my business. I tend to write dyeing recipes on random papers and then I don’t label them properly. I mean really, gorgeous or fabulous doesn’t quite cut it….it’s the details.

The other is to walk at least ONCE a day. The weather is looking to be mid and there is no reason not to lace up the shoes and head out.

I have no new pictures to show you at the moment. I am limping along with my knitting. I spoke with my MD on Friday and she will have the results of my test. I already requested a specific hand specialist. Fingers crossed for me please. Not knitting is making me a bit edgy. Also, my husband rearranged my kitchen and that alone makes me go crazy.

I could use some good thoughts and positive energy directed to my hand.

I am off to fill the fridge and then straighten out our bedroom before the painter comes on Wednesday.

Have a wonderful day,

Michele

Funny things that happen…

I spent time with the family and we decided a trip to IKEA was in order. It had been about 4 years since our last trip so I had the hubby run around and measure things. I was terribly disappointed in the quality of their products and left with nothing. We did however treat ourselves to a Starbucks on the way home. So I am still on the hunt for some end tables and other such things.

Again, not being able to knit has produced a list of things I want to change in the house. And frankly, everything is so darn expensive. I am a bit of a bargain hunter and refuse to pay full price. I found the greatest accent chair at one of my favorite stores, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Marshalls. It was a Broyhill and it looks wonderful in my living room. I went back this week and found a great rug for my foyer, which was also Broyhill. I always leave there feeling victorious!!

I have an entire wall in my kitchen that I really want to put in a built-in desk with bookcases on each side for my vast cookbook collection and a place to display my collection of pottery. Lots of fabulous ideas that all cost a fair amount of money. I will find a way.

I also have some great ideas for my business, but it will have to be baby steps for now. I would love to have a designer make something with on of my yarn lines. I am still swooning over the Yarn Harlot’s socks for Ken in the Yankee Puritan! They turned out so beautiful.

I have added a new base to the ever-growing Yankee Dyer yarn lines. This one will be in my Etsy shop tomorrow and it is called Yankee Lite. It is a lovely single, non-plied yarn and it is super soft.

Sneak Peak

Here is a sneak peek of the new base and the colorway is Crimson. Look for additional colors to be added this week.

Happy Knitting,

Michele
