Today was a very special day for me. It was to be the launch party for The Yankee Dyer, but mother nature had other plans.
My Dad, who lives on Cape Cod, MA called to warn me about some serious weather heading our way and I must confess, I had been so busy with party prep that I hadn’t heard a thing. Bryce was watching something on the DVR, so no local news was reaching us. My poor husband was about 50 miles away at a retirement dinner. We live in Southern Maryland…
So after the heads up from Dad, I fired up the iPad and saw indeed a line of storms. I quickly put Bryce to bed, because he always thinks there is going to be a tornado and I couldn’t deal with him freaking out.
I had just finished up in the kitchen and finally sat down for a few moments when all hell broke loose. It was worse than the hurricane that blew through last year. It tore down our shed and flipped my son’s swing set. I have to admit I was pretty frightened. We lost power immediately.
Meanwhile, hubby is driving in it and he came home and he was as white as a ghost. We are all safe and sound, but the party needed to be postponed until July 4th. Nothing like a Yankee Dyer party on the 4th of July…seems fitting!
I am most grateful for our generator that is saving the $300 worth of food in both my refrigerators! So since we have no power and no water and no A/C, things are going to get hot and stinky around here pretty quick. Sounds like a day to sit still and knit! And that is what I will do.
I am working on the Easy Folded Poncho now. A nice, easy stockinette pattern…mindless, but going to be oh so cute.
Stay cool and keep on knitting!
My life has taken on an a whole new direction and I am a bit overwhelmed, but excited at the same time.
The Yankee Dyer is about to launch and boy, that is really putting yourself out there. I am happy to say that we are about ready. The yarn is all set and just needs to be staged. Next on the agenda is food, and making the beverages. I think I will enlist the help of Bryce tomorrow, he likes to be included.
I have always wanted to have a business. But the overhead was always so much money and then to fill the shop, it was enough to give you pause. This is my chance to let my creativity loose but on my terms. Really, what could be better?
I finished the Color Affection for Bryce’s teacher, finally. We will get together with her at the end of July so Bryce can give it to her.
My next project is the Easy Fold Poncho from Churchmouse Yarn and Teas. I am doing it in Rowan Felted Tweed. It’s a kind of mindless project with all the crazy swirling about me right now, it’s just what I need for the moment.
I am sorry that I have been away so long. But being a wife, mother and starting a business could be a tad distracting.
I promise to be better with the blog. Here is a sneak peak of Saturdays yarn offerings.
This is Yankee Sole in Distinguished…so beautiful!
This basket is full of Yankee Select, a BFL/Silk/Cashmere base. So super yummy!
I am off to bed as there is much to do tomorrow. Sweet dreams and of course,
I promise that I have not forgotten you! My intentions are always the best. The “wonderful time with my son” lasted 1.75 days…then the attitude kicked in.
During the day I think of things to share with you that are interesting or amusing and sometimes I jot them down on paper, but most of the time I forget. I even forget why I thought it was funny or amusing….sad, right?
I should tell you that my hubby and I are COMPLETE POLAR opposites. I am a night owl and he is a morning person and Bryce. well, most of the time he is in the way as only 9-year-old boys can be. For instance, they both get up before me on the weekend, not by much, but I stay in bed for as long as humanly possible. This morning my DH must have been up early because as soon as he heard my feet hit the floor he was at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me with a LIST that he needed to go over with me immediately!! This was before COFFEE!!! Nobody should talk to me about anything before my morning beverage. I immediately became grumpy and that was how my day started today.
Starting company has been a challenge!! I am all about the dyeing and being creative. Hubby likes all the PR and other detailed stuff. Frankly, it’s quite an undertaking, but well worth it.
Here is what I have been up to….
I have our big launch party on the 30th of this month and I have a whole lot of planning to do.
I think that I will knit for a bit first….
Let it begin!
Bryce and I started our summer time together today with a lazy day. We both slept in and were in our pajamas until noon. After lunch, he wanted to go to the bank and I needed a few things at the grocery store.
After the bank trip, where he deposited money and cashed a birthday check he turns to me and ask, ever so sweetly, “can I treat you to an iced coffee Mom”? Gosh it was sweet and I did take him up on that and we had a lovely afternoon. Now mind you, this is DAY 1 of summer vacation, our routine is still new and I doubt that this sweet child will remain this way all summer, so I sucked the life out of this moment just to make the feelings last. 😉
Once home, he even helped with the bags. I immediately checked him for a fever. A mom can only take so much joy in ONE afternoon before we think….something is very wrong!! But, no, just being sweet.
I did not finish his most wonderful teacher’s shawl, I am so close, but I tripped and fell yesterday over a computer power cord and I hurt all over. I did send her an email and asked if I might obtain her actual address, which I promised I would shred once I mailed the shawl and she happily gave it to me. That took a ton of pressure off me and my very sore self.
I am proud to report that my little man made the Honor Roll and I couldn’t have been happier for him. He has worked so very hard this year and it was evident in his grades, so we took him out to dinner.
Thank goodness he’s a cutie!
Tomorrow starts a very special time period in every knitters’ life…..it is
WORLD WIDE KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY
I, of course will be participting with lots of enthusiasm!! I’ll be working, but I will step outside and KNIT IN PUBLIC! So if you see a bunch of people, here there and everywhere, don’t be alarmed. It’s not a flash mob…but wouldn’t that be fun!! This event starts tomorrow and runs through June 17. So if you don’t get to it tomorrow, there is time!
School days are winding down, with only a 1/2 day on Monday. Oh how I will saver those last few precious “alone” hours. 😉
It was a rather crazy week and I’m glad it’s heading for my rear view mirror.
The shawl isn’t done. Too many distractions. Maybe a really good push over the next two days, maybe.
Remember to get out those needles and some yarn and knit!!
It was a wonderful birthday weekend for my son Bryce, who turned 9 on the 3rd of June. We had an action packed weekend and I got to bake a cake and 24 cupcakes for his class to enjoy on Monday.
I had to share this with you because it is just so precious and funny at the same time. Bryce has a “blankie” and I was able to take it outside and take a picture of its current state. This blanket is also 9….do you think it looks 9..?
Can you say tatters? My sweet Aunt Sandy crocheted this blanket for Bryce and it was a baby shower gift. As an infant, he would always kick his feet and flip his blanket over his face and I was convinced that he was going to die. Auntie’s blanket was crocheted, so I thought he might survive possible suffocation if I gave him this one. He loves it beyond reason and to this day, still sleeps with it. My mom, his Nana had repaired this many, many times. There are days that he wears it around the house and it looks like he’s wearing a shawlette….I always get a giggle from that.
I just had to share…! I classify this as an extremely delicate hand wash.
I had a great dyeing session yesterday and when it’s dry I’ll take some pictures.
I have lots to do since school is winding down!
Have a great day and happy knitting!!
